Description

This 1940s striped long dress is absolutely amazing! This beautiful floor-length dress features shoulder pads and that classic early 40s shape!

This is a handmade vintage item, so there’s no label. Fabric appears to be 100% cotton. It’s crisp and light. The fabric has no holes, tears, or stains. For a vintage item of this age, it’s in exceptional shape!

This cute babe would fit around a modern US size 12-14 (L). The measurements, taken flat, are:

B: 21″

W: 15.75″

H: 21″

L: 55.5″ shoulder to hem

If you’re as fascinated by 1940s fashion as I am, this reference from Vintage Dancer might interest you! The puffed sleeves and A-line structure of this dress were common during the early 40s, as are the shoulder pads, which gained inspiration from men’s fashion.

Dresses in the late 30s and into the early 40s were highly influenced by men’s fashion, so you’ll find a more structured look.

Another great example of this style of dress is this gorgeous 1940s garnet velvet party dress I have in the shop. As you can see, it follows the structure of broad shoulders, a tapered waist, and a full skirt.

The style changed in the late-40s with skirts becoming more tapered, giving the appearance of an inverted triangle.
