Leave it to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising to fill us in on the history of Lanz of Salzburg!
The company didn’t always make pajamas! In fact, Lanz got its start in Salzburg, Austria, back in the early 1920s making ski wear and traditional Austrian dress.
But apparently the history of the company is not so cut-and-dried. You see, Josef Lanz, the companies founder, emigrated to the United States before WWII. The company continued to produce Austrian-inspired fashions after WWII, but after that, Josef left the company.
And that’s when things get a little blurry. You see, Lanz of Salzburg’s Austrian operations still exist. But there’s also an American company that makes sleepwear, like this robe. If you know more about Lanz of Salzburg than I or the FIDM could puzzle together, reach out and let me know. I love a good mystery, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of continuity about the history of the company.
