Description

This Australian kangaroo pouch purse is so cool! This purse/bag/wallet comes from the late 80s-early 90s during the height of the U.S,’s obsession with all things Australian!

The best thing about this bag is that it’s much bigger than it looks. Think of it as the Tardis of wallets. The tabs at the top open to a wallet-type pouch, but the front opens and unfolds, featuring loads of pockets for all your stuff. Get it? Kangaroo? Pouches?

Dimensions:

The best thing about this bag, if you ask me, is that it’s new with tags! It’s never been used before!

If you like quirky bags, I have some in the shop! You might love this 1930s brass handbag with strawberry engraving! Or maybe this 1950s pre-ban Cuban alligator bag!

Let’s chat about the pop culture obsession the U.S. developed with all things Australian back in the 1980s. Now, the U.S. had an affection for Australia way before Crocodile Dundee came out in 1986. That movie certainly had a huge influence on American culture.

A little post-apocalyptic film called Mad Max came out in 1979, and it truly sparked off an entire decade of mania around all things Australia. Koalas. Kangaroos. The accent. Boomerangs. We were wild about Australia for a minute!

In fact, a slew of Australian movies helped fuel that obsession. This Reddit thread is a great resource!

I like to think this pouch is a little peek into a time when the U.S. was wild about Australia!
